Director James Gunn seems to be teasing either The Suicide Squad 2 or, more likely, a new spin-off series from the movie similar to next month’s Peacemaker. While Peacemaker is the first The Suicide Squad HBO Max series, which was set up in the movie’s post-credits scene, there are other characters who have been teased for their own project — such as maybe a Harley Quinn movie or a Captain Boomerang HBO Max series.
The Suicide Squad 2 or a new HBO Max spin-off series?
While Peacemaker launches on HBO Max next month, James Gunn has teased that there may be other The Suicide Squad spin-off projects in the pipeline. The director, who is also currently working on the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie, was asked about further spin-offs after Peacemaker and replied with a suspicious smiling emoji alongside a gif of a raccoon rubbing its hands together and laughing. He then clarified that this is nothing to do with Rocket Raccoon and he was specifically talking about The Suicide Squad spin-offs.

As for what the spin-off could be, characters such as Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Bloodsport (Idris Elba) are both alive and would be popular but might be being saved for a possible The Suicide Squad 2/Suicide Squad 3. The two most likely characters to receive a lower-key HBO Max series would probably be either Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) or T.D.K. (Nathan Fillion). While Captain Boomerang is dead, the character is popular and Gunn liked a reply to the above tweet with Jai Courtney saying “a boomerang always comes back.”
As for T.D.K., despite being shot multiple times Gunn specifically revealed that the character is still alive. Furthermore, Nathan Fillion is a fan-favorite actor who previously worked with Gunn on 2006 horror movie Slither, and T.D.K. is such an amusing and silly character (even Harley Quinn is confused by him) a spin-off might be a fun idea.
