In Part IV, Chapter 2, Shinada meets up with an old coach of his at the batting cages. As they reminisce, Shinada recalls the time his coach had him wax his car all day, which the coach had eventually realized a mistake. He admits now that he was fooled by a movie, which is a reference to the famous training scene in the classic movie, "The Karate Kid."
