Call of Duty: Vanguard: What is Combat Pacing?

There’s a new feature in Call of Duty: Vanguard that aims to give players even more battlefield flexibility. What is Combat Pacing in Call of Duty: Vanguard?

The Combat Pacing setting in Call of Duty: Vanguard adjusts the intensity of the game’s firefights. Among other tweaks, the Combat Pacing preference will change the number of players in the match as well as the time to engagement.

This detail was first mentioned during the game’s recent multiplayer reveal. From that video, we know that Vanguard will offer four different Combat Pacing settings:

  • All, which allows for all preferences
  • Tactical, which lowers the player count to 6v6 and increases the time to engagement
  • Assault, which is a balance between Tactical and Assault for between 20 and 28 players
  • Blitz, which aims for quick combat and rapid respawns, with between 28 and 48 players

As its name implies, Tactical should slow down the overall experience. Even though it represents the classic Call of Duty combat timing, it should make for fraught, tense combat as opposed to rapid-fire action. On the flip side, the idea of Blitz was compared to the idea of making every map into Shipment, which is to say pure madness. Blitz will certainly be the setting of choice for twitch-based players looking to rack up huge kill counts.

Even better, the team at Sledgehammer Games will allow you to choose any Combat Pacing setting you like for any map. That means there’s nothing stopping you from going full-on Blitz in larger maps like Red Star.

It’s rather obvious: Combat Pacing in Call of Duty: Vanguard allows players to tweak the pace of the game’s combat. The Tactical setting will keep engagements slower, while Blitz will turn the battlefield into pure chaos. You’ll be able to set up your preference by sorting through Vanguard’s multiplayer matchmaking filters.
