Ghostbusters Afterlife trailer reveals Ray and Janine, still no Bill Murray or Slimer

The new Ghostbusters Afterlife trailer is here, along with a confirmation that the much-delayed Ghostbusters sequel finally has a release date of November 11. The new trailer brings with it the first appearance of Ray Stantz (Dan Ackroyd), Janine Melnitz (Annie Potts), and a classic Terror Dog, but still missing is the promised Ghostbusters Afterlife Bill Murray appearance or even Slimer.

The new official trailer for Ghostbusters Afterlife is finally here, and it adds a lot of detail to Ghostbusters Afterlife, including the first appearances of original cast members Dan Ackroyd, Annie Potts, and the first movie’s iconic Terror Dog. However, despite Bill Murray’s Peter Venkman being confirmed as returning the only glimpses of him in the trailer are in photos and footage from the original Ghostbusters movie. Also absent is the series’ iconic ghost Slimer, although the kids do chase after a similar ghost nicknamed ‘Muncher.’

Today’s trailer comes a full year after the original teaser trailer launched, and the movie — which, of course, was delayed due to the pandemic — now has a release date of November 11 in the US and November 12 in the UK. Most of the original movie’s stars are down to return, including Sigourney Weaver, who was absent from the excellent videogame. New actors include Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, and McKenna Grace, the latter two playing the grandchildren of Egon Spengler.

Any fans of Ghostbusters who can’t wait for Afterlife should really check out the excellent videogame, which got a remaster recently for modern consoles and is basically Ghostbusters 3 — as well as the last appearance of Harold Ramis as Egon. As the pandemic slowly eases up and theaters reopen at last, movies like Ghostbusters Afterlife are starting to return, beginning with this month’s release of Marvel’s Black Widow and this week’s release of DC’s The Suicide Squad. Hopefully there won’t be any further slips.
