The New World closed beta is proving very popular, which is great news for Amazon Game Studios. Not so good, however, are the reports that playing the game can brick, kill, or destroy a GPU. Is there any truth to the rumors, though? Is New World bricking and breaking graphics cards like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090? Here’s the latest on this worrisome PC GPU bug.
Can playing New World break GPUs?
According to several corroborative user reports, playing New World on a PC with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 GPU can brick the graphics card. Users with alternative GPUs should be safe to play New World; the MMORPG is currently in beta, however, so there may be undiscovered graphics processing units that are susceptible to getting broken, killed, or destroyed.
The best course of action for anyone with an RTX 3090 GPU is to not play the New World closed beta. It simply isn’t worth the risk, especially considering that these Nvidia graphics cards are both expensive and rare. For anyone that simply must play Amazon Game Studios’ brand-new MMORPG, there is a (still somewhat risky) suggested fix.
Software bricking hardware isn’t common these days, which arguably makes it even more concerning when it does happen. Beta test builds are not final, so technical issues are somewhat par for the course. Still, it’s unreasonable to suggest that anyone playing New World ahead of its final release should expect it to brick, kill, or destroy components of their PC.
Not rocking an RTX 3090 graphics card? In that case, check out how to get a New World beta key. For anyone that doesn’t gain entry, according to Amazon correspondence, there could be an “Open Beta Test” on the way.
