Rick and Morty make a shocking cameo in Space Jam 2

There’s a Rick and Morty Space Jam: A New Legacy cameo scene, and the internet is shocked. Space Jam 2 is out today, including on HBO Max, and there are many, many Easter eggs, character cameos, and outright re-used movie and TV scenes throughout the movie. However, it’s the Space Jam 2 Rick and Morty scene that has fans the most shocked, mostly because they didn’t expect to see an R-rated cartoon crossover with the Looney Tunes.

What is the Rick and Morty Space Jam: A New Legacy cameo?

Rick and Morty Space Jam

The Rick and Morty cameo scene in Space Jam: A New Legacy comes around 40 minutes into the movie, during which the animated version of LeBron James, Bugs Bunny, and Daffy Duck are drawing up potential players for their squad. Suddenly, Taz the Tasmanian Devil is thrown at the window of their UFO by another cartoon duo driving a UFO: Rick and Morty. Rick has apparently been running tests on Taz to see if whatever it has is reversible, and apparently it isn’t — traumatizing Morty in the process, and as fans know, Morty’s been through a lot.

Other things surprising fans may include the fact that Warner Bros does indeed own the franchise, and that an adult-rated cartoon would appear in a PG-rated movie, with the Looney Tunes. Considering Space Jam: A New Legacy has cameos from A Clockwork Orange, and immediately after the Rick and Morty scene the UFO drives past Game of Thrones world, it’s actually pretty common. Perhaps the most surprising thing is this may be Rick and Morty’s first voiced movie appearance as themselves, and not just in the background like in Justice League.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is out now in theaters and on HBO Max in the US, and is also surprisingly people with a Xbox and Nike collaboration, although the fan reaction to Zendaya as Lola Bunny has been less complimentary. As for Rick and Morty, it’s currently in the middle of its fifth season, and the most recent episode was a lot of fun.
