Cyberpunk 2077 is the latest high-profile release to come out of developer CD Projekt Red. It’s an ambitious game, and as such, it demands a lot out of the hardware running it. But could it be played on something like the Nintendo Switch? Is there any word of a Cyberpunk 2077 Nintendo Switch version release date?
Cyberpunk 2077 | Nintendo Switch port release date
For now, there is no release date for the Nintendo Switch version of Cyberpunk 2077. In fact, developer CD Projekt Red hasn’t even said the game will be coming to Nintendo hardware. If Cyberpunk 2077 ever comes to the Switch — and that’s a big if — it won’t be for a very long time.
This news may come as a bit of a disappointment to Switch owners. After all, CDPR’s previous release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt did eventually land on the Nintendo Switch. It’s not the best version of Witcher 3, but it’s still solid enough to be considered a major win for Nintendo.
However, Cyberpunk 2077 may simply be too ambitious for Nintendo’s hybrid handheld. Speaking in an interview with onMSFT, CD Projekt Red’s John Mamais said the game “might be too heavy” for the Switch. In other words, it’s very likely that the Switch simply doesn’t have the grunt to run it. By all accounts, it certainly seems to demand powerful hardware. If you’ve already jumped into the game, we have advice on how to fix stuttering and frame-rate issues.
Of course, we’re inclined to never say never. The idea of putting The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch was at first considered far-fetched, and CDPR made that work. It could be years down the line — or it could land on the Switch’s successor — but it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
Either way, there is no release date for Cyberpunk 2077 on the Nintendo Switch. Getting the game to run on Nintendo’s handheld would be a tall order, if not an impossible one. Still, the bottom line is the same as before: If you want to play Cyberpunk 2077, you’re best off with a powerful PC, a PlayStation 5, or the Xbox Series X|S.
