Black Ops Cold War keeps freezing fix

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players across all platforms are running into a freezing bug. Whether attempting to enjoy the new CoD game on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S freezes can be prevalent. Is there a Black Ops Cold War keeps freezing fix, though? Here’s the lowdown on what to do when a freeze occurs.

CoD: Black Ops Cold War Freezing | How to fix freezes

Black Ops Cold War keeps freezing fix

Nobody wants to encounter a freezing glitch, especially in a game of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s scale. It’s no doubt especially annoying for those attempting to play on their shiny new Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 consoles, what with it also being a paid upgrade and all. Regardless of where users are playing, the following troubleshooting steps may serve to get them back up and running.

Here’s how to fix the Black Ops Cold War constant freezing issue

  1. Fully close the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War application.
  2. Ensure that the latest update is installed.
  3. Do a full system reboot.
  4. If the issue still occurs, uninstall the game.
  5. Reinstall Black Ops Cold War and try again.

Although Activision and Treyarch haven’t formally addressed the issue yet, presumably there’s an official Black Ops Cold War freezing glitch fix in the works. The problem is pretty widespread, so it’d be surprising if the development team wasn’t already aware of it. Fingers crossed that a game update addressing the problem isn’t too far out.

It’s worth noting that CoD: Black Ops Cold War freezes can occasionally rectify themselves. See below for an example of this in action, via @JimSterling:

This could come in handy if a freeze occurs towards the end of a match, allowing users to finish the game and retain any earned XP. It isn’t a guaranteed fix, though is definitely worth a shot.
