Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox Series X and Xbox One X gameplay split

Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox Series X and Xbox One X gameplay shown on surprise Night City Wire

Some Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox Series X and Xbox One X gameplay was shown by CD Projekt today in a surprise Night City Wire stream on Twitch. This special episode gave players a chance to compare how the game looks between the two consoles — but it doesn’t tell the whole story.

Cyberpunk 2077 is launching in less than a month and will likely have millions of people playing it on PC and two generations of gaming consoles. The game’s “day zero” patch pushed back its release date for their third time this year, resulting in death threats being sent to some developers. Now, CD Projekt Red has given players their first look at how the game will look on the Xbox Series X and Xbox One… sort of.

The special Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox Series X and Xbox One X gameplay opened with CD Projekt Red’s UK head of Communication Hollie Bennett introducing the special episode of Night City Wire. This stream did give players an extended look at gameplay and some insight into the game’s deceptively small map, but it also had some problems.

To start, the surprise Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox Series X and Xbox One X gameplay reveal switched back and forth between Xbox Series X and Xbox One X gameplay; players could tell which version of the game was on screen by looking at the label on the screen. This constant back-and-forth switching interrupted any feeling of continuity and made it somewhat difficult to truly compare the differences between the two consoles.

That wasn’t the only problem — while both the original Twitch stream and the YouTube video were shown in 1080p resolution, they were also locked to a 30 FPS framerate. Today’s presentation will give players a rough idea of what the game will look like on Xbox consoles when it launches early next month, but it’s unlikely that it will serve as a truly useful comparison between the two consoles or give players an idea of how it will actually look on either Xbox.
