The Super Mario 35th Anniversary Nintendo Direct has been revealed, with a bunch of new announcements including Mario Kart Live Home Circuit, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, and a Super Mario 3D World Nintendo Switch release.
Here all the reveals and announcements from today’s Mario Nintendo Direct:
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
The Wii U classic jumps onto the Nintendo Switch, as Super Mario 3D World will be playable on the console on February 12, 2021. The 4-player co-op Mario game will finally make its debut on the console, with it having received a visual overhaul since its introduction on Nintendo’s previous console.
The game will also include a new add-on called Bowser’s Fury, which will be playable on the Nintendo Switch port.
Super Mario Bros. 35
It’s Super Mario Bros. but with 35 players! Similar to Tetris 99, Super Mario Bros. 35 will place you directly against other players as you try to outpace your opponents. Use items to take down your challengers, and keep going until you’re the last Mario standing.
Super Mario Bros. 35 will weirdly only be available for a limited time, with it launching exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online members on October 1, 2020, until March 31, 2021. It’s unclear why it’ll only be playable for this brief period of time, but it looks fun nonetheless.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit
It’s Mario Kart mixed with Pokemon Go, but much more elaborate. Mario Kart Live Home Circuit is an augmented reality game that also combines real-life remote controlled karts, with players using their Switch to race the vehicles around a track set up in their own home. 4 players can compete against one another to race to the finish, with the karts being affected by AR items that slow them down.
The game is based on an invention by Velan, with it being developed by the company in partnership with Nintendo.
“Our mission at Velan is to create breakthrough games that are magic,” said Karthik Bala, CEO, Velan Studios. “We invented the initial mixed reality hardware and game prototype to really nail the exhilaration of racing in the real world with the play and feel of a video game. We showed the experience to Nintendo and were thrilled they saw its potential. That started a wonderful multi-year creative collaboration, which became Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit. We can’t wait to see the creative ways fans play when they race around their own creations as Mario and Luigi.”
It looks incredibly inventive, and with it launching on October 16, 2020, we won’t have long to wait at all to try it out.
Super Mario All-Stars
The SNES Mario collection is being added to the SNES Nintendo Switch Online collection, adding a bunch of 2D Mario classics to the store.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars
The long-rumored 3D Mario collection is official, with Super Mario 3D All-Stars set to launch on September 18, 2020. The collection will include Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy, featuring updated visuals and compatibility for 2 Joy-Cons for multiplayer gameplay.
