What is obsidian dark form in Mortal Shell?

The Mortal Shell obsidian dark form isn’t explained in the game very thoroughly. That does make some sense considering most of it is shrouded in mystery. But you’ll need to know what it is for the Nihilist and Life if Suffering trophies that require you to give up your humanity, renounce all shells, and beat the game while in this form, respectively. So what is the obsidian dark form in Mortal Shell and how do you get it?

What is obsidian dark form in Mortal Shell?

The obsidian dark form in Mortal Shell is you in your pure shell-less form, but with a twist. You can only get to this form by finding a special statue in the game and renouncing all shells, sacrificing all of your upgrades. You will also die in one hit, making this form for the hardest of the hardcore.

To get to that form, find Gorf the giant frog in Fallgrim, the opening green area. He’s right near where you first start out. Go to the place in the picture and toward the red arrow.

In that alcove, you’ll find some breakable sticks as well as a small path like you see in the picture. The white dot means you can crawl inside.

Once you crawl inside, you’ll find an H.R. Giger-esque structure. This is it. You can examine it and then renounce all shells and experience to go into obsidian dark form, which is like your shell-less form but black.

This obviously makes the game very difficult but you’ll need to do this if you want the Nihilist trophy and then for the Life is Suffering trophy. Since you don’t have to play through the whole game in obsidian dark form for the Life is Suffering trophy, the easiest way to do this would be to have a backup save just before you fight the final boss.

Reload that save from your USB stick and then run over the the statue to get into your obsidian dark form and then take on the final boss. You still have to beat the boss without getting hit, which take some time, but it isn’t that difficult once you learn the patterns.
