PlayStation Indies is a newly announced initiative from Sony, which will see indie games receiving a bigger focus as part of PS Now starting this month. PlayStation Now will start adding indie games to its offerings this month, and today will see the reveal of some new PlayStation indies.
The new PlayStation Indies initiative was revealed today, with a bunch of new games set to be revealed throughout the course of the day. The initiative highlights how Sony is spotlighting indie games ahead of the PS5 launch later this year, suggesting that independently-developed games will be a focus for the next-gen console.
“While details are still forthcoming, we are also happy to confirm a new indie title will join the PlayStation Now service every month, starting with Hello Neighbor in July,” announced Head of PlayStation Indies Shuhei Yoshida in a PlayStation Blog post. “Please look out for our monthly PS Now posts for more information!”
PS Now is Sony’s game-streaming service that gives access to a massive library of games for just $9.99 a month. Currently, the service boasts access to more than 800 games from the PlayStation back catalog. Subscribers are also able to play a selection of these games on PC.
Alongside this initiative, Sony will be debuting nine “imaginative and exciting” PS4 indies throughout today, although Shuhei Yoshida declined to mention any specific games.
As for Hello Neighbor, this first game of the new PlayStation Indies initiative was developed by Dynamic Pixels and published by tinyBuild. Your creepy neighbor is up to something and it’s up to you to sneak into his house to figure out what’s going on. It won’t be easy, though — your neighbor will upgrade his security with each attempt on your part, adding more and more new challenges for players to overcome as they unravel more of this mystery.
You can enjoy the opportunity to play Hello Neighbor and other excellent PS4 indies by signing up for a 7-day free trial of PS Now at the PlayStation Store.
