Star Wars: Squadrons Microsoft Store leak

Star Wars: Squadrons release date announced alongside trailer

Star Wars: Squadrons got a release date reveal alongside a trailer today. The existence of this game previously leaked earlier this year under the name Project Maverick, and the official name was erroneously revealed last week when an Xbox Store listing went live early.

As predicted, Star Wars: Squadrons centers around starfighter combat. The key part of the game is the multiplayer, which involves 5v5 dogfights between two teams of players. The game will feature a leveling system. As you move up the ranks, you’ll earn parts to customize your starfighter’s performance and cosmetic items that affect your cockpit, ship exterior, and pilot. According to EA, all these items are earned solely through gameplay, and there’s no mention of microtransactions as of now.

There’s also a single-player campaign in Star Wars: Squadrons set just after the Battle of Endor. The story will follow two customizable pilots on opposing sides of the Galactic Civil War. You’ll alternate between playing as a member of the New Republic’s Vanguard Squadron, and a pilot in the Empire’s Titan squadron. This is an exciting time in the new Star Wars canon that hasn’t been shown a lot. We know about the Battle of Jakku, in which most of the remainder of the Imperial fleet was destroyed. However, the fights between the Battles of Endor and Jakku are only vaguely covered.

Star Wars: Squadrons will release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. For PC, the game will launch simultaneously on Steam, Epic Game Store, and Origin, with no exclusivity announced. It will also feature cross-play between PC and consoles.

You’ll be able to purchase Star Wars: Squadrons when it releases on October 2 for $39.99. EA/Origin Access Basic members get ten free hours with the game, and EA/Origin Access Premiere users get the full game for free on launch day.
