Following yesterday’s PS5 “The Future of Gaming” event, a Sony executive said that there was a Spider-Man Miles Morales expansion. Now, a new report says that Spider-Man Miles Morales is actually not an expansion; rather, it’s a standalone game all on its own.
“I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game,” Sony’s Head of European Business at Sony Interactive Entertainment Simon Rutter explained to The Telegraph. “There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.”

However, it seems that this Sony exec’s comments led to more confusion than anything else. That’s why a separate source reached out to a different outlet to better explain the situation and detail just exactly why the Spider-Man Miles Morales expansion comments weren’t quite accurate.
A source speaking with Bloomberg informed them that this new Spider-Man game is a brand-new title, although it won’t have the same scale and scope as 2018’s Spider-Man release on the PS4. Rather, this is going to be a shorter game that will be much smaller than the core release. One example given is the difference between the size of Uncharted Lost Legacy and the other core Uncharted games.
Several details remain unclear. Miles Morales patrols New York City just like Peter Parker does, so the developers may have re-used the map from the previous game. Does this count as a Spider-Man Miles Morales expansion, an expandalone, or an entirely new game? That definition is going to be awfully tough to sort out until we get more concrete details on this upcoming PS5 title.
