A new BioShock game is in the works, with it being announced today that the new development studio Cloud Chamber is in charge of taking over the reins of the series. We have no idea if this new game will follow on from the events of BioShock Infinite or even if it will be tied to the original trilogy, though fans are already excitedly speculating over what could be in store.
But what do you think about a new BioShock game? Are you interested in a follow-up to Infinite, or do you think that the series should have bowed out when creator Ken Levine left it behind? Let us know in the comments, and as always we’ll feature our favorite response in tomorrow’s Tell GR!
Michael Leri, features editor: “Conceptually, yes, I’d like a new Bioshock game as I’ve loved (to varying degrees) the other three. But that question gets a little more complicated as we don’t seem to quite know who is behind it. It’s a franchise with a lot of weight so hopefully this team can do that name justice and do something new without retreading over the same ground. While still a great game that gets unfairly lampooned at times, Bioshock 2 is what happens when a developer makes a good game without that special sauce. And after six years of absence, not having that special sauce would be incredibly underwhelming.”
Mack Ashworth, lead editor: “I’ve enjoyed each and every BioShock game, so I’m definitely excited for another one. I’ve always found the twists and turns to be very satisfying, even if there are a few plot holes that you have to ignore. I’m hoping the next game takes place in a completely different setting, with an entirely different story to tell. There’s a lot writers can do with the concept of parallel universes, so I hope the folks over at Cloud Chamber let their imaginations run wild.”
Paul Tamburro, executive editor: “BioShock Infinite had a compelling story wrapped up in tedious gameplay. While I found it underwhelming on a number of levels, its ending definitely had me interested in where the series was going next. Irrational Games (now Ghost Story Games) isn’t taking the lead on this one, so it’s intriguing to think what a new creative team will do with the series after the middling response to 2K Marin’s BioShock 2. With the game set to be in development for several years, it’ll hopefully be worth the wait!”
Jason Faulkner, senior editor: “I liked BioShock and BioShock Infinite (never played BioShock 2), so I’m interested to see what Cloud Chamber comes up with. With such a gap between Infinite and the new title, I kind of hope they just do their own thing instead of trying to tie it back into the original trilogy. Above all, I just hope it’s not a remake of the first game.”
