Rumor Says Final Fantasy Remake On The Way

Ever since a tech demo of Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation 3 was shown at E3 2005, rumors have run amok on the web, speculating that the game would eventually be remade for the console. Time and time again, Square Enix shot down the rumor, instead giving us one sub-par Final Fantasy experience after another.

Surprise! Yet another rumor has surfaced, but this time it's not specific to Final Fantasy VII. PSXextreme claims that they aren't sure which Final Fantasy will be remade, just that one of titles from the long-running RPG franchise will indeed be remade. The actual reveal is said to take place at Sony's E3 Press Conference, where the "high-profile remake" will be announced.

The site won't reveal sources, and instead points to the various reasons why this makes sense for Square Enix, namely the current financial crisis the JRPG giant is facing.

We really, really, really, really, really hope they remake Final Fantasy VII. But at the same time, we're afraid if they do. Given Square Enix's recent track record, they just might ruin what could likely go down as the most popular RPG of all time.

Which Final Fantasy would you prefer to be remade? Oh, and do you think the remake would come to the PS3 or Sony's PlayStation Vita (NGP)?
