Additionally, in order to breed pigs in Minecraft, you need to feed them. This begs the question, what do pigs eat in Minecraft?
What do pigs eat in Minecraft?
In addition to keeping pigs happy, you’ll need some pig food in order to breed pigs in Minecraft. The method is a little bit different than our parents explained to us when we were little, but in order to breed a pig in Minecraft, you’ll need to give it one of three items: carrots, potatoes, or beetroots. All of these items can be used to feed pigs in Minecraft, and thus produce little piglets on your virtual farm.

Perhaps the easiest of the three items to find are carrots and potatoes. Both can be found naturally in the world, dropped by Zombies, or from farming. Likely the easiest and quickest way to find carrots and potatoes would be naturally in the world, as long as you’re looking in the right place. For carrots, the best place to look is at a Pillager Outpost, but they can also be found in shipwreck supply chests, and village farm plots. Potatoes on the other hand can be found at a high percentage in Plains, Snowy, and Taiga House Chests, along with Shipwreck supply chests, Pillager Outposts, and Village Farm Plots.
Beetroots on the other hand are a little bit harder to come by. The only way to find them is from harvesting a Crop Block that is fully grown, which can be found in villages. Harvesting the Crop Block will drop the crop and seeds, which could yield a Beetroot or two, however, it is not guaranteed.
Once you’ve got some pig food, you can feed it to your pigs in order to breed piglets. You won’t need many pigs to create a nice pig family, as it only takes five minutes for a pig to be able to breed again. Once you’ve got some piglets, you’ll need to allow them a full Minecraft day (20 minutes) to mature. However, this process can be sped up by 10% per item that you feed the piglets. Now that you’ve answered the question, what do pigs eat in Minecraft, go out there and breed yourself some pigs.
