Mojang added a new type of insect to the vast cubed world in the latest Minecraft update. The new Minecraft Bees are bringing with them hives, honeycombs, and the ability to sting players. However, despite getting a bad rap and dying at an alarming rate in real life, these bees are actually pretty cute and don’t want any trouble. Here is everything that you need to know about bees in Minecraft.
Minecraft Bees | Hives, honeycombs, and getting stung
Despite an intimidating demeanor, the bees in Minecraft won’t bother you if you don’t bother them. As you might expect, you’ll typically find bees around flowers with a Hive close by. After all, even virtual bees need to pollinate things. If yous see a mob of bees, you don’t need to worry about them stinging you, unless you mess with them or their Hive. Then it is game on. If you happen to get stung by a bee, you’re going to die. According to the official patch notes, after getting stung, the stinger will stay in your character and eventually kill you. However, you won’t lose any of your stuff.

If you don’t plan on bothering the fuzzy insects, then you can actually benefit one another. Bees can help players grow their crops by pollinating them, thus you grow better crops. So if you’ve always dreamed of owning a bee farm, you can breed them using flowers. However, if they are unable to find and plants to get pollen from, they’ll like leave and find a new place to call home. For that reason, you’ll want to make sure there are plenty of flowers and crops to keep them busy.
Players can now craft a bee hive by using honeycomb and wood planks. If you want to harvest materials from an existing bee hive, you’ll need a silk touch tool, otherwise you’ll just destroy the hive. Additionally, players can store honey from a bee hive by using a honey bottle. Honey can be drunk, sold, or crafted into sugar. You’ll just need to make sure you don’t anger the Minecraft bees while you’re trying to get the sweet substance.
