Nintendo’s “Friendly Neighborhood Indie Guy” Kirk Scott and Katie “The Friendly Gamer” Casper opened Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase with the announcement that a Risk of Rain 2 Switch version is on the way. This intense roguelite game has been blowing up (especially after the success of its predecessor), and you’ll be able to get your hands on it for the Nintendo Switch when it arrives later in the summer of 2019.
We got our first hints of a Risk of Rain 2 Nintendo Switch version when a rating for the game popped up on Germany’s Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (Or USK), the country’s national censorship board and equivalent of the ESRB or PEGI. A rating for a game usually precedes an official announcement by a few weeks, and we now have confirmation that the second Risk of Rain game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

So, what is Risk of Rain 2 all about? Simply put, you (and a handful of your friends, if you want) will be dropped into a world filled with murderous enemies. Utilize your reflexes and abilities to defeat as many of them as you can, but you’ll probably end up dead for your troubles in this intensely-challenging game. You’ll have to try again, and again, and again and again until you finally get it right — and then you’ll play it some more because it’s just so gosh darn compelling.
While Risk of Rain 2 has been officially announced for the Nintendo Switch, an eShop page for the title isn’t up just yet. We have managed to glean some details about this title from its announcement as part of the Nintendo Indie World Showcase, though! As this is a game with multiplayer content, it will probably require Nintendo Switch Online membership and a Nintendo Account to play it online with other people. There hasn’t been any mention of local multiplayer, whether via split-screen or linking separate consoles on Wi-Fi.
Risk of Rain 2 is certainly a lot of (very frustrating fun), and it will soon be making its way to Nintendo’s hybrid handheld console. You’ll be able to get your hands on it sometime in the summer of 2019. As summer officially ends on September 23, 2019, you can expect that it will probably release sometime before then.
