Sonic movie delayed

Sonic movie delayed again, now due March 2020 (Update)

UPDATE: It seems as though the Sonic movie delay may just be a mistake. The official Twitter account has reverted the banner date back to February 2020. Sega nor Paramount have responded on if the date has actually changed or not.

ORIGINAL STORY: We’re sure that the worst possible news for Sonic the Hedgehog fans would be one about the Sonic movie delayed yet again, but unfortunately that seems to be the case. After all, the film was previously delayed once before, as it was moved out of 2019 and to February 2020. The Sonic movie has since been pushed back even further, and now apparently won’t launch until at least March 2020—and may possibly be delayed again.

The news was spotted by Wario64 on Twitter, and unlike the previous delay it hasn’t been advertised or talked about at all. The tweet contains a shot of the official Sonic the Hedgehog movie Twitter feed, which had its bio temporarily updated to read “speeding into theatres March 2020.” This bio has since been deleted altogether, so we’re assuming it was put up by accident in anticipation of some sort of official announcement. Incidentally, the feed hasn’t been updated since the trailer came out, and not only does it not mention the initial delay to February 2020, the page’s banner still boasts the original release date of November 11 this year.

The first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie came out in April this year, where it was roundly criticized or just flat-out mocked, including for its poor writing and inappropriate music choices—’Gangster’s Paradise’ by Coolio, which makes no sense in either of the contexts for the movie or the games. The most universal condemnation, however, was reserved for the “realistic” design of the movie’s version of Sonic the Hedgehog himself, which was even criticized by Sonic’s co-creator Yuji Naka. The studio later announced the Sonic movie would be delayed in order to correct the design. If it’s now being pushed even further back, the producers need more time to do so, unless there is another reason for the delay.
