Dragon Quest Builders 2 Tinting Tun

Many items in Dragon Quest Builders 2 can be dyed. You can see if you can change the color of the item by looking for “Can be dyed” in the item description. This identifier is helpfully in light blue font that contrasts with the standard white used in item descriptors. This should help you spot which items can be dyed quickly.

Odds are, you’ll run into quite a few items that say they can be dyed before you gain the ability to do so. To dye items in Dragon Quest Builders 2, you need a Tinting Tun. You won’t get the recipe for the Tinting Tun until near the end of the Kharumbul-Dun story. When building the Gold Bar, one of the objectives will be to make dyed lightboxes to complete the blueprint. When you’re called on to do this, you’ll get the recipe for the Tinting Tun, and you’ll get the location of your first dye.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 Dyes

During the course of the story, you’ll run into at least two dyes. During the Kharumbul-Dun story, you’ll be asked to get the red and blue dye to complete the Gold Bar blueprint. However, there are a total of eight different colors in DGB2:

  • White
  • Black
  • Purple
  • Pink
  • Red
  • Green
  • Yellow
  • Blue

Though you get the first two in the story, you’ll need to find the other dye locations yourself. Fortunately, this isn’t too hard. The rest of them can be found on the various explorer islands. These randomly generated islands contain some materials and items that can’t be found elsewhere. To gather the rest of the dyes, you just have to explore these islands.
