How to Kill a Sim in The Sims 4 | Burn them

the sims 4 fire

You’ll probably encounter random fires a lot while playing The Sims 4, but deliberately trying to get your sims to start one, and then burn to death doing so, is tougher than you might imagine. If you can pull it off though, it can be quite a quick death. First, make sure the stove is the cheapest you can find. If the sim has a low cooking skill, get them to cook something complicated, or just try preparing multiple meals. Put rugs under and around the stove, so when it does catch fire, all the rugs will too. Once you’ve got the fire, don’t let the sim run away from it, keep them in place, and don’t let any other sims extinguish the fire. Alternatively you could sabotage the Christmas Tree and get the Sim to put some lights on it…

How to Kill a Sim in The Sims 4 | Drown them

The tried and tested method for sim extermination is drowning them in a pool, although it can take a while to make them actually die. Build a pool, get the Sim you want dead to have a swim in the pool, and then promptly remove any ladders and put a fence around it. Order your sim to continually swim around and they’ll eventually get exhausted and drown. This may take a few in-game hours, however.

How to Kill a Sim in The Sims 4 | Starve them

the sims 4 room

You need to stop a sim from eating for 48 in-game hours for them to die of starvation, unless they have the Ravenous moodlet, in which case it’ll only take 24 hours. The easiest, and most tried and true way, of killing a sim by starving them to death is by simply putting them in a room without doors or windows, and no food source. Then just leave them. You can make them do lots of activity and exercise in there if you want it to go a bit faster, but otherwise… just let time take its toll.

How to Kill a Sim in The Sims 4 | Electrocute them

Much like burning them with stoves, the hardest part about electrocuting sims is that you have to wait for electrical items to break before sims can be electrocuted by them. Just scatter a load of cheap ones around and get your condemned sim to keep on using them. Items like televisions, microwaves, toasters, and stereos work best. Once an item starts smoking and sending off sparks, then it’s time to send in the sim to repair them.

The other catch is, the sim has to have a low Handiness skill (say, less than 5) in order for this to work. If they do, when they try to repair the sparking machinery, it’ll electrocute them instead. Funny, but that’s not enough, since it’ll just give the sim the “singed” state. Get them to try and repair another faulty item, though, and this time it’ll kill them.

How to Kill a Sim in The Sims 4 | Death by laughter

Sims 4 Die of Laughter

One of the most unusual new ways to eliminate your sims in The Sims 4 is getting them to laugh themselves to death. Yes, this is a real thing. Basically, the goal is to get your sims feeling so Happy and Playful that they’ll become hysterical. They’ll need to be about +15 in both states to get the Hysterics mood, which can be pretty difficult. Comedians can probably do this the easiest, and sims with the Cheerful trait, although sims with different sadness traits may not be able to reach this state. You’ll need to do the same steps for all sims, regardless.

Gather Happy moodlets wherever you can, like exercising, reading, sitting by fireplaces, whatever makes the sim happy. Next, concentrate on the Playful state. Watch a comedian (either in real life or on television), take a bubble bath, be around playful decor, read “Make Them Laugh ‘Til They Cry!”, tell the sim “the Funniest Joke in the World”, and keep building that Playful trait. Once they become hysterical, keep them around Playful objects or watching comedy for a few in-game hours and they’ll laugh themselves to death.

How to Kill a Sim in The Sims 4 | Death by embarrassment

To kill a sim by making them embarrassed to death requires that you get them to the Mortified state, similar to death by laughing. However, getting them to a Mortified state is more difficult than Hysterics, since it’s harder to embarrass a sim so much that they get there. You literally have to keep showering them with embarrassing circumstances to get to Mortified. Make sure you have a low Hygiene level, walk in on people having a shower or on the toilet, pee in public in front of others, have embarrassing conversations, things like this. Once Mortified, keep them that way for a few in-game hours until they die from embarrassment. Alternatively, just re-create my last birthday party.

How to Kill a Sim in The Sims 4 | Feed them to the Cowplant

The Sims 4 Cowplant

The Cow Plant, a.k.a. the Laganaphyllis Simnovorii, is lovely and lethal. To get one, either fish in the Oasis Springs Desert Bloom Park, Forgotten Grotto, or Magnolia Promenade (if you have the expansion), send a sim into space in a rocket, dig for treasure, or graft it. Get the Cow Plant to its adult stage and make sure you don’t feed it for over 12 in-game hours. Once hungry, the Cow Plant will start to tempt unwary sims toward it with a fake piece of cake. Tell your sim to interact with it, and you’ll get two options: “eat the cake” or “feed the cow plant”. If you want them to die, get them to eat the cake. However, the first time might not kill them. If so, just get the sim to do it again. It’ll definitely eat them the second time. To death.

How to Kill a Sim in The Sims 4 | The fastest way to kill a Sim

If you don’t want to cheat to get rid of a bothersome Sim, and don’t take any pleasure in exterminating them, then you’re probably looking for the best ways to kill a Sim quickly and cleanly. There are multiple ways to do this out of the different ways above. Sealing your Sim off in a pool, removing the ladders, and putting a fence around the pool is probably the most straightforward. Putting them in a room, a small kitchen, and getting them to keep on cooking things until the cooker explodes and they burn is fairly easily. Sealing them in an empty room and letting them starve is the most boring, and can take up to three days, but it works.

In winter, order them to swim around in a pool, especially when they don’t have many positive moodlets, and they’ll freeze quickly. If you have the option, turn them into a vampire and just send them out into the sun, that’s pretty instantaneous. If you have City Living, get them to eat a poorly made pufferfish, which is also an instant death. Give them a try.

How to Kill a Sim in The Sims 4 | Cheat codes to kill Sims

sims 4 death

The thing that all of these methods have in common is that they can take some time. While we’ve listed a few of the quickest deaths above, even the fastest can take several in-game hours, or require some serious effort and sim management. If you just want a sim gone and don’t care that you have to cheat to do it, the real easiest and quickest way to kill them is with cheats. Simply open up the command line in the way we established previously,  and type in one of the following commands:

  • sims.add_buff buff_Death_Electrocution_Warning: gives the sim the Seriously Fried moodlet, which will make them more likely to be electrocuted while fixing appliances.
  • sims.add_buff buff_Mortified: immediately takes the sim to the “Mortified” level of embarrassment. Just keep them there and they’ll die.
  • sims.add_buff buff_Hysterical: immediately takes the sim to the “Hysterical” level of Playful. Just keep them there and they’ll die laughing.
  • sims.add_buff hunger_Starving: the sim will start starving. Don’t let them eat and they’ll be dead within 24 in-game hours.
  • sims.add_buff BurningLove: increases the sim’s chance of causing fires for 4 hours. Just keep them around flammable items and get them to fix dodgy stoves.

Those are all the best ways to kill your sims. Of course, there’s also the chance of the sim becoming a ghost or a zombie, but let’s not get into that. It’s too morbid.
