The Pokemon Company announced on Twitter that it will hold a livestream to provide more information on the upcoming mobile game Pokemon Masters. The livestream will happen on June 27 and will hopefully shed some light on what we can expect from the new title. Pokemon Masters is the first title The Pokemon Company has done with publisher DeNA, which was responsible for collaborations with Nintendo in the past.
Pokemon Masters was first announced back in May. Only a few details about the game have since come forward, but we can expect more at the upcoming livestream. What we do know is that players will be able to fight alongside memorable trainers from the Pokemon series’ past such as Misty, Brock, and Red. The first glance at gameplay footage showed the player battling in a three-versus-three fight with Brock and Misty at their side. Brock has his signature Onix and Misty her Starmie.
The player’s Pikachu knows two moves and appears to have the space to learn two more, which functions the same way standard Pokemon games do. The opposing team seems to have their Pokemon’s weaknesses above their heads, which could help players old and new strategize. Brock also shows a flair for the dramatic by ripping off his shirt to perform a Z-move, which was both unexpected and somehow not surprising. In between battles, players can interact with the famed trainers of legend. We’ll have to wait and see how the mechanics of catching new Pokemon work, or if the game is taking that aspect in another direction.
If this sounds like your can of lemonade, you can tune into the stream at 9AM here. Pokemon Masters is expected to launch by the end of 2019, and the livestream may bring us a more narrowed release window. The game will be available through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, though regions have not been specified at this time.
