The Ace Attorney series has been on a rollercoaster ride since its debut in Japan in 2001. Few series get as popular as this while also leaving multiple games in the franchise untranslated for its Western fans. However, Capcom does do its best to spark interest in this cult favorite. Most recently, the first three games in the franchise are getting a new repackage for modern consoles and PC. To celebrate the opportunity for new players to object to the facts being distorted, we decided to rank who we feel are the top 10 Ace Attorney characters from all the games so far.
When choosing who would be the top 10 Ace Attorney characters, it only makes sense to pick recurring favorites. While there have plenty of amazing one-off criminals floating in and out of the cases, the core cast of lawyers and hangers-on really bring the stories together. It can be tough to parse together the sometimes baffling logic that a particular case demands. Therefore, it’s great to have some of the top 10 Ace Attorney characters at your side to bounce off of.
Of course, since this is a limited list, there are more great characters we wish could have been included in the top 10 Ace Attorney characters. For one, Professor Layton. Sure, he’s not exclusively an Ace Attorney character. Still, his unique crossover with Phoenix Wright was a highlight of both sets of games.
Also, who could forget Apollo Justice? Most fans probably, but he did go through something resembling a redemption art in the latest modern releases. Here’s hoping that when we return to the Wright Anything Agency, Apollo is ready to prove himself and take the top spot in the top 10 Ace Attorney characters. Or, at the very least, we hope he’s ready to win a few cases this time around.

Top 10 Ace Attorney Characters | From Psychics to Powdered Wigs
Few franchises in gaming have as colorful a cast as Ace Attorney. Known as Gyakuten Saiban or Turnabout Trial in its native Japan, these courtroom dramas blast off the screen. However, if you were to play through every game, who would be your favorite characters? These are our picks for the top 10. -
Klavier Gavin
Perhaps no other character presents the absurdity of Ace Attorney than Kalvier Gavin, the lead vocalist of a successful rock band who gave it all up to become a lawyer. While he is a prosecutor, he's generally friendly, which is a nice change of pace in the series. -
Godot
Do you like coffee? Do you really like it? Godot likes it more, as he drinks at least seventeen cups before each hard day of work in the courtroom. The visor-wearing caffeine fiend is a tough opponent in the courtroom and an expert impersonator when he needs to be. -
Franziska Von Karma
A cold and calculating presence in any courtroom, Fanziska Von Karma is most known for her utilization of a whip during trials. Sometimes, it has a mind of its own, or so she claims, but it always seems to be right on target. Before meeting Phoenix Wright, she believed that victories were everything, but she's since softened that stance. -
Maya Fey
Phoenix Wright's right-hand woman throughout most of his adventures, Maya Fey is the younger sister of Phoenix's original boss, Mia. Her powers of channeling spirits have led to many turnabout victories, but they've also gotten her in trouble just as often. -
Phoenix Wright
The main protagonist of the Ace Attorney franchise and the dark horse for best character in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Phoenix Wright is a sometimes bumbling defense attorney that always finds a way to serve justice. His screams of "OBJECTION" have become the stuff of internet obsession, making him more popular than his games, at least in the United States. -
Simon Blackquill
The "Twisted Samurai" of the court system, Simon Blackquill is probably one of the only lawyers in history to practice law while also serving time for murder. He's known for utilizing his pet hawk Taka in cases as well as repeatedly breaking his shackles due to his sheer strength. -
Larry Butz
Whenever Larry Butz shows up during a case, players get a glimpse at the world outside the courthouse. He's held down numerous jobs and chased after numerous girlfriends, with his only constant being a cool demeanor and an eternal friendship with Phoenix Wright. -
Trucy Wright
A magician adopted by Phoenix Wright in later games, Trucy brings some comic relief to many a case. She also serves as Apollo Justice's right-hand woman in the courtroom for a time, although she now spends her days studying and practicing tricks in the Wright Anything Agency. -
Miles Edgeworth
The prosecutor that's so good at his job that he got two whole spin-off games, Miles Edgeworth is the original and still the best. His battles with Phoenix Wright show that he's just out for justice as he sees it, but his smarmy comments provide a good foil to your courtroom antics. -
Dick Gumshoe
Maybe we're just suckers for cop stereotypes, but Dick Gumshoe is a delight whenever he appears in an Ace Attorney game. A bumbling fool who seems to hinder investigations rather than help them, you still can't help but love him and his good-natured personality.
