Solar Ash Kingdom

Solar Ash Kingdom is the new game from Heart Machine, makers of Hyper Light Drifter

Solar Ash Kingdom is the second game from Los Angeles-based developer Heart Machine. The developer released Hyper Light Drifter in 2016, and is now back with a stylish new title. Even better, Heart Machine released a trailer for Solar Ash Kingdom earlier today, and readers can check it out below.

Announced in collaboration with IGN, Solar Ash Kingdom has a few screenshots and a trailer up online. The game’s PC release will be tied to the Epic Games Store on PC, but is likely to come to other platforms and distribution services in the future. No release date was announced for the game, nor was a time frame for its release. Annapurna Interactive is publishing the title.

Unlike Hyper Light Drifter, Solar Ash Kingdom is a 3D title, and it appears to have a larger emphasis on fast, fluid traversal. The player character is shown using some kind of roller blade-esque movement scheme. They also have a cool sword.

In a statement, Heart Machine’s Alx Preston said the company wants to differentiate Solar Ash Kingdom from its predecessor with new tech and innovations.

“We strive to tell a beautiful story through our world, the atmosphere, our characters, and even our gameplay – each aspect of our games are painstakingly considered – which requires a large investment of time. Thanks for bearing with us and our relative silence; we’re so excited to start opening up about the game and the process behind it on our devlog and beyond.

“It’s been difficult to hold our tongues on such an exciting creation after this long, but it’s been worth it to make sure we put out our best for our audience to see just how far we’ve come from the days of pixel art.”

Heart Machine ported Hyper Light Drifter to PS4, Xbox One, and Switch following its initial release in March of 2016. It’s unknown which platforms besides PC will get Solar Ash Kingdom initially. Heart Machine is currently hiring for Solar Ash Kingdom development, which has been ongoing since 2016. Check out the game’s reveal trailer below, courtesy of IGN.
