The beautiful game never stops. That’s why we’re talking about FIFA 20 now when there’s still six months to go until the game releases. The newest FIFA game after FIFA 19 is bound to pull a few surprises on us, especially with the conclusion of Alex Hunter’s Journey story, but what do we actually know about the game and what can we find out? Below, we’ll take you through a potential FIFA 20 release date, whether there’ll be FIFA 20 Early Access on EA Access or Origin, and more of the latest FIFA 20 news, rumors, and leaks, all of which will be updated weekly.
FIFA 20 | Everything you need to know
Title: FIFA 20
Developers: EA Vancouver
Publishers: EA
Release date: Unconfirmed [see below]
Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch
When is the FIFA 20 release date?
Neither EA nor developers EA Vancouver has announced a FIFA 20 release date but, unless things shift considerably this year, we have a very good idea of when it’ll land. FIFA has held a prime spot at the end of September every year for over a decade, so a Q3 2019 release is almost guaranteed at this point.
A quick look at the past three years’ release slots can also nudge us in the right direction when it comes to the FIFA 20 release date:
- FIFA 17: 27 September, 2016 [US], 29 September, 2016 [worldwide]
- FIFA 18: 29 September, 2017 [worldwide]
- FIFA 19: 28 September, 2018 [worldwide]
The last two years in particular both landed on the final Friday in September. If this pattern continues to be followed when we’re looking at a FIFA 20 release date of September 27, 2019. It’s only an educated guess, but it’s the most likely candidate.
But, of course, there’s the small matter of FIFA 20 Early Access to contend with, as an EA release is never simple, is it?
Will there be FIFA 20 Early Access?
Again, nothing has been confirmed but, with the recent trend of EA games requiring honest-to-goodness charts to keep track of all the staggered release dates, Early Access is pretty much a downright certainty.
Origin Premier users got the full FIFA 19 title a whole nine days early last year, and it’s sure to be the same again. Meanwhile, FIFA 20 Early Access will (almost definitely) come to Xbox One via the customary EA Access 10-hour trial, which will also be available for basic Origin users.
Unfortunately, there will most likely not be FIFA 20 Early Access on PS4 if recent history is anything to by.
Are there any new FIFA 20 modes?
EA is likely to reveal details about the game during its pre-E3 2019 EA Play live streams. If there’s any new FIFA 20 modes, we’ll find out about them there.
I’ll wear a Brighton shirt if the likes of series mainstays Career Mode, Pro Clubs, and Ultimate Team aren’t included, as well as the suite of online head-to-head matches.
However, with Alex Hunter’s Journey ending last year, it’ll be interesting to see what its replacement is, if anything at all. We’d like to see a more narrative-focused style of single-player offering, perhaps aping that of Madden‘s recent successful Longshot series.
Meanwhile, there’s been a massive groundswell of fans desperate for new changes to FIFA 20’s Career Mode. In recent months, the hashtag #ChangeCareerMode has taken off on Twitter, with players requesting widespread changes to the mode that has remained relatively untouched since the days of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Is there a FIFA 20 trailer?
Nothing yet, but it’s likely to land on June 7-9 at the EA Play 2019 event.
Latest FIFA 20 news, rumors, and leaks [updated weekly]
What else is on the horizon? Right now, not a whole bunch. It is, after all, still early days. FIFA 20 will have a presence at E3 2019 and, latterly, Gamescom 2019. It’s there where we’ll find out more about the new FIFA game.
For now, we’ll have to make do with scraps and morsels of news. EA Global Manager Corey Andress has recently tweeted about “A busy, busy week of planning meetings,” perhaps hinting that development is properly ramping up at the midway point of FIFA 19’s life cycle.
Beyond that, there isn’t a whole lot to go on. Rest assured, though, that as soon as we have more info on this year’s soccer sensation, then you’ll find it right here at GameRevolution. Keep us bookmarked and return every week for more about what is (and isn’t) in the game this year.
