Fortnite Infinity Blade gone and vaulted.

Fortnite Infinity Blade Gone – Is the Fortnite Sword Vaulted?

Epic Games announced that the new Fortnite Infinity Blade item has been vaulted. The Fortnite community criticized the new “mythic” item in the days since the item was released. That’s right, he new Fortnite sword is gone from the game.

Fortnite Infinity Blade Gone – What Epic Says

On Reddit, Twitter, and their own forums Epic Games said the same thing. “Heya folks, we messed up and rolled out the Infinity Blade overpowered / without good counters, especially in the end game. The Infinity Blade has been Vaulted and we are re-evaluating our approach to Mythic items. Thanks for calling us out on this!”

The Infinity Blade, a reference to Epic’s now-delisted Infinity Blade mobile games, was only released with Fortnite‘s 7.01 patch. That update released on December 11, and saw the new Mythic item wreak havoc on game balance. Epic Games looks to be rebalancing the Fortnite sword, but there is little in the way of information regarding its future. There’s a chance it could come back in a limited time mode, or be weakened considerably before re-entering the main battle royale mode.

Fortnite Infinity Blade Vaulted – What was it?

The Infinity Blade, in it’s original incarnation, is a melee weapon with two fire abilities. The primary ability dealt 75 damage, and was a forward dash followed by a powerful slash. This ability could also destroy structures in a single blow. The Fortnite sword’s alternate ability allowed players to jump great distances, and destroy objects in their path. 25 damage and a knock-back was applied to surrounding enemies upon landing. Players who wielded the Infinity Blade were also granted increased max health and shield, to 200 each. Their health and shield also regenerated at a set rate, and killing enemies granted a 50HP boost. The final boost for users was a 30% increase in movement speed.

Fans were immediately frustrated by the overpowered weapon. The immense damage, health boosts, and movement options made it difficult to counter even for highly skilled players. Epic’s removal of the item has been met with near universal praise from fans. The Reddit post has nearly 6k upvotes in under an hour, and fans are thankful Epic pulled the item.
