Koei Tecmo has confirmed that a Dynasty Warriors 8 Switch US release will be happening soon. It will only be available digitally in the west, via the Nintendo eShop. This entry to the Chinese historical franchise was originally released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3. The new Nintendo Switch version will be releasing December 27, 2018, for $39.99.
Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Definitive Edition will be coming to the Nintendo Switch with most of the DLC for the game. This package will include costumes, side stories, and various additional warriors. Koei Tecmo has also revealed that fans who have played Warriors Orochi 4 on the Switch will receive bonus costumes. A 10 percent discount can be applied to the purchase if the game is bought within a week of release. The game will also be available in Europe on the same date.
This edition of the game was announced for a Japanese release last week for the same date, via Famitsu. In Japan, fans would be able to purchase the game physically, as well as digitally. This will be the first time a mainline Dynasty Warriors game will be available on the Nintendo Switch in the West. While we have seen the various spin-off Warriors games, such as Fire Emblem Warriors, come to the console, this is a first for Dynasty Warriors on Switch.
Dynasty Warriors 8 is based on the 14th century historical Chinese novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It runs on the same engine as the previous entry into the franchise, but with slight tweaks to the combat system. This will be the fifth version of the same game, since it has been re-released multiple times since its initial launch in 2013.
Our review of the original release of this expansion to the game gave it a 3 out of 5. The review praises the title for its five new characters and higher level cap. However, the reviewer was disappointed at its lack of change from the original release.
