PS4 Error Code CE-34878-0 – How to Fix the Blue Screen

Uh-oh. PS4 error code CE-34878-0 is back with a vengeance. The blue screen error has plagued many a game in the past but, most recently, it is causing several issues and Black Ops 4 crashes for wannabe zombie slayers out Blackout champs to deal with. But you’re not alone. We’ve suffered through it too at GameRevolution; so here’s a PS4 error code CE-34878-0 fix.

What is PS4 Error Code CE-34878-0?

CE-34878-0

Exclusive to PS4 users only (duh), this error will crop up without warning when either booting up a game or during a game. You will suddenly be met with the blue screen and error message (which you can see above) and your game will crash, forcing a restart. This can often happen on a loop and it’s not always abundantly clear what’s causing it.

PS4 Error Code CE-34878-0 – How to Fix

In a rare move, Sony has an official fix to help alleviate the problem.

  • First, you must ensure both your console and the affected game is fully updated before proceeding. Otherwise, that may be the cause of your issue, which is easily fixed via update.
  • If you’re currently booting your game from a HDD, you’ll need to restore it after (and this is important) backing it up. Once backed up, go to Settings, then System, then finally Back Up and Restore.
  • Insert the HDD via USB port
  • Press “Restore PS4”
  • Select the game file you wish to restore
  • Press “Yes” on the next screen.

If you don’t have an external HDD or aren’t using it for the game that’s crashing, simply back up all saved data, go through to Settings and then Initialization, before pressing Initialize PS4. This should, ideally, clear the cobwebs out and let you continue playing the game without seeing the CE-34878-0 error code ever again. Failing that, a simply uninstall and re-install can occasionally work wonders. It’s the “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” for the Fortnite generation.
