The Last Remnant Remastered

The Last Remnant Remastered Revealed For PS4

The Last Remnant Remastered is coming later this year according to a teaser trailer uploaded to the Japanese Square Enix YouTube account late last night. The soft reveal comes just one week after the company removed the original title from Steam and other online marketplaces. A worldwide release hasn’t been confirmed but is highly likely at this stage. Despite PC sales being suspended, the current webpage for The Last Remnant Remastered only mentions a PS4 release and a December 6, 2018 release date.

Square Enix surprised us a few weeks back with plans to discontinue sales of the 2008 RPG The Last Remnant. It was revealed the PC version of the game would be delisted from digital stores like Steam by early September and even removed from any retail shelves still stocking the title, making it virtually impossible to pick up a new copy of the game.

The practice isn’t unheard of but is usually only used on games that feature licensed properties like existing characters or music not solely created for the game. The Last Remnant didn’t feature any obviously licensed products, making its removal all the more suspicious.

As it turns out, the removal wasn’t Square Enix trying to delete The Last Remnant from existence, but simply replacing something old with something new. Marking 10 years since the release of the original version, Square Enix revealed The Last Remnant Remastered through a teaser trailer posted to the company’s YouTube channel.

The video itself is a short clip montage that does little to show off any remastered materials alongside the original, making a direct comparison difficult to achieve. With the Tokyo Game Show right around the corner, however, Square Enix is likely leaving the wider reveal for a proper showing at the event itself.

The trailer for The Last Remnant Remastered only appears on the Japanese-language Square Enix YouTube channel right now. The video does include a release date, but that could still change drastically between regions.  With the original game being pulled from stores worldwide, though, it’s entirely possible the trailer will just be reworked to include release dates relevant to each region before being uploaded to local Square Enix YouTube channels once the game is properly revealed.
