Before we can usher in the New Year, let’s reminisce about the top sport genre games of 2012. This year, like any another, has brought in a number of sports titles diverse enough to please most fans, looking for the best in the category. With such a wide range, it’s barely possible to pick one. FIFA 13 has shown much improvement and with just a few more additions, Madden 13 could be in a league of its own. SSX even had an impressive showing; the evolution of snowboarding is here! Developers have steadily been able to reinvent and rejuvenate their respective projects with creativity that keeps us excited.

But above of all the rest, MLB the Show included, NBA 2K13 stands alone as top dog. Rightfully so, this year's installment had everything one could ask for. Solo and online playability, skills games for improvements, bumpin' soundtrack, the works. Michael Jordan even took the time away from endorsing underwear to promote the franchise. If Madden had some of the same capabilities, the crown may be in different hands. Regardless of the nominees, 2K shall hail for time to come… at least until next year. Honorable mention goes to NHL 13; hopefully a lockout in the season doesn’t hurt the development of the game.

Runners Up:

  • Madden NFL 13
  • FIFA 13
  • MLB 12: The Show
  • SSX
