Cyberpunk 2077 Story

Cyberpunk 2077 First-Person Staying, Team “Very Aware” That Many People Don’t Like It

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the world’s most anticipated games, and the recent gameplay demo reveal video has only strengthened that for most people, but a group of fans remain unhappy with the Cyberpunk 2077 first-person perspective. Unlike The Witcher 3 and all of CD Projekt RED’s other games, which are third-person so you can see the character, Cyberpunk 2077 is played entirely in first-person so you see through the character’s eyes. CD Projekt RED are apparently “very aware” that a lot of players are unhappy about this, but have no plans to change it.

In an interview with DualShockers at Gamescom, Quest Designer Patrick Mills spoke about the choice of first-person perspective, and if they noticed feedback from fans who were disappointed in the choice. Mills said that the studio is firm in their decision about using first-person for Cyberpunk 2077, but the team has seen all the feedback and they are “very aware that a lot of people don’t like first-person.” It’s not just straight dislike though, as they have also acknowledged the “small number of people who can’t play first-person for a variety of reasons,” either due to discomfort or motion sickness we presume.

While CD Projekt will continue to use first-person, Mills added that the team does still want the game to be enjoyed by as many people as possible. He and the team are looking to offer a variety of difficulty settings and sensitivity options in the hope that people who don’t like, or can’t play, games in first-person will give Cyberpunk 2077 a chance.

While first-person does have a lot of support, including from the original tabletop creator Mike Pondsmith who said in an interview that “the world is best perceived that way,” there are still a lot of players who just don’t like it. Unfortunately for them it looks like CD Projekt RED are sticking to their guns – literally.
