Morrowind unlikely to get remastered

The Elder Scrolls Morrowind Remaster Unlikely to Happen

The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind is an iconic RPG and is revered by many Elder Scrolls fans and they have been asking for a Morrowind remaster for years. However, Todd Howard, executive producer at Bethesda Games Studios, has revealed that he isn’t enthusiastic about remastering the 2002 classic.

During an interview with The Guardian, Howard said that he’s happy that the 2002 RPG is backward compatible on Xbox One. Howard also states that he prefers backward compatibility to remastering the game.

“I’m happy that you can play Morrowind now on an Xbox One, as it’s backward compatible. I’m really happy that Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and others are making it easier for people to play [older games] as they were played at the time. I actually prefer that over remasters. I’d rather you play Morrowind the way it was … I think the age is part of its identity.”

Howard talked about The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Special Edition whilst discussing the topic of a Morrowind remaster. “For Skyrim Remastered, we had done some work on it but it was already pretty visually close. But for something like Morrowind, my personal preference is not to remaster it.”

During the interview, Howard revealed that also gets asked to remaster the original Fallout a lot and he feels similarly about that. “We [also] get asked a lot to remaster [1997’s] Fallout 1, and I usually say, if you have a PC you can play Fallout the way it was. I think that’s how it should be.”

The latest mainline entry in the Elder Scrolls series is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim which launched in 2011 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The fantasy-RPG received critical acclaim from both fans and critics for its rich world and a huge amount of content. Skyrim was re-released on PS4 and Xbox One in 2016 as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. The re-release boasted improved visuals and lighting and it contained all of Skyrim‘s DLC.
