Uncharted 5 is Possible and Can Continue With Cassie, says Amy Hennig

Former Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig thinks the series can continue after Uncharted 4. Spoiler alert: Nathan Drake’s story wraps up nicely in Uncharted 4, with flash-forwards showing us his daughter Cassie. While Drake’s globe-trotting may have come to an end in Uncharted 4, Hennig argues that there is plenty of scope for the series to return. Uncharted 5 could easily happen folks.

Speaking to GameReactor at GameLab in Barcelona, Hennig says that much like Indiana Jones, you can “always jump back in” to Uncharted. Indeed, Spielberg’s venerable archeologist has returned time and time again in different forms. We’ve seen an elderly Jones find Aliens and we’ve gone into the past to watch a young Indy. Uncharted could do the very same, or carry on with a new protagonist.

Uncharted 5: Cassie or Young Nathan Drake?

Just how do you continue a series that had such a clear ending? Hennig argues that, despite it being tough, Naughty Dog could find ways to create Uncharted 5. They can look to the future, with Cassie, or they could make a prequel:

“And how would you continue it? I mean, that’s tough, because they kind of wrapped it up with a bow and had the flash forward. Look, I think there’s a lot of material there that you could continue with Cassie, with the daughter, you could do flashback stories with Nathan Drake… you just look at Indiana Jones; there’s really not a limit. You can always jump back in and tell a story with an older character and that gives a whole different color to it, which is kind of cool, and you could do sort of the Young Indiana Jones version of Nathan Drake if you wanted to. I’m excited, because it sounds like the filmmakers are gonna do that actually with the Uncharted film and go back to an earlier time and stuff like that.”

What direction would you like to see Uncharted 5 take? A prequel, with a younger Nate? We’d personally love to see a future installment based around Cassie. Nathan Drake’s story has been told and it’s time to move on. Whatever happens with Uncharted 5, it won’t be for a good while, as we still don’t have a Last of Us 2 release date.
