Google Indie Games Accelerator Program Aims to Boost Game Development in Asia

Google has announced a new program inspired by its successful Launchpad Accelerator, and it’s targeting new untapped regions in Asia. The Google Indie Games Accelerator is a four-month-long program which aims to boost game development for Android platforms and assist indie game startups from countries like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Google Indie Games Accelerator: What’s In The Program?

According to the official site, selected startups will receive two all-expense paid trips to gaming boot camps which will take place at the Google Asia HQ located in Singapore. They will also receive personalized mentorship directly from Google and games industry experts, as well as the golden opportunity of having their games showcased on Google Play. All of that comes alongside $20,000 in Google Cloud Platform and Firebase credits, Google Pixel phone for testing and invites to exclusive events.

Several confirmed leading game experts include Vlambeer co-founder Rami Ismail, Games2win CEO and co-founder Alok Kejriwal and many more. The submission deadline for the program will be on July 31st, 2018. The first selected batch will be announced on August 8th. The first boot camp program will take place from 24th to 28th September while the graduation boot camp is set from 27th to 29th November 2018.

There’s a couple of required criteria for acceptance into the program. These include having a game in development during the timeline of the program and submitting a playable demo of their latest game under development or their most recent launch on Google Play.

This is a great effort by the folks at Google to further improve game development in regions with huge potential. There’s a lot of determined aspiring game developers in these regions, especially Malaysia, and they have been waiting for an opportunity like this. Hopefully, the program is a success and the games industry continue to experience growth in every part of the world. Meanwhile, check out the promotional video below.
