Splatoon 2 is getting a new Octo Expansion DLC and an update to version 3.0 according to today’s Nintendo Direct. The Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion looks to be bringing some much-needed single-player content (featuring an Octoling named Agent 8), while the 3.0 update adds a bevy of new maps and gear to the game’s multiplayer. Additionally, if you beat the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion, you’ll unlock the ability to play as an octoling in the game’s multiplayer.
What’s in the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion?
The new DLC expansion for Splatoon 2 brings a whole new single-player story to the game. You’ll play as Agent 8, an octoling trapped in a strange subterranean test facility. There are 80 different stages that are all connected via a mysterious subway system. Along the way, you’ll meet Capt’n Cuttlefish, and Pearn and Marina will contact you via radio.
As stated above, beating the Octo Expansion will give you the ability to play as an octoling in multiplayer. The DLC is available for pre-order now for $19.99, and if you purchase now, you’ll get octo headgear and clothes as a neat bonus.
What’s New in Splatoon 2 Update 3.0?
Splatoon 2 update 3.0 will add a ton of new items to buy. Over 100 new pieces of gear will be available to kit out your Squid Kid for battle. There will be three new maps, with Piranha Pit and Camp Triggerfish returning and the all-new Wahoo World being available for the first time.
There will be a new rank to strive for as well. Rank X will now sit above S+ as the highest level you can reach in multiplayer. Tying in with this, Callie will appear in Octo Canyon if you meet certain conditions.
Nintendo certainly does a great job supporting their games, and I’m excited to see even more content coming for Splatoon 2. Update 3.0 will arrive this Spring, and the Octo Expansion DLC will come out this Summer.
