Capcom Debuts New Game EX-Troopers

As revealed by Famitsu, Capcom is setting up an offshoot of Lost Planet called EX-Troopers developed by Shintaro Kojima, one of the producers behind Monster Hunter, who hopes that it is seen as "a beginners' action shooter".

Set to release for PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS, EX-Troopers is set in the same universe as Lost Planet, but will have a different visual theme. Players will be pit in the role of Bren Turner, a recruit from the EDN-2nd academy who has been transferred to EDN-3rd, just in time for the fight against the EDN-3rd and snow pirates plus Akrid aliens.

Bren will need to navigate between three bases, each with their own academy members. It will introduce new characters like Gingira, a vital suit with a high-tech AI that can communicate with Bren, and TeeKee, a snow pirate who can for some mysterious reason communicate with the Akrid aliens. Do I smell a villain?

EX-Troopers looks to be trademarked in the US and Europe as well, so we should expect an international release. The game, which is about 60% complete, will be in playable form for the Capcom Summer Jam in Tokyo held at June 30 and July 1.
