Nintendo Announces Price Cuts For DSi, DSi XL

Nintendo has cut the prices of two of their handhelds. As of May 20th, the Nintendo DSi will be $99.99 and the DSi XL will be $129.00. For a mere $40 more, you can buy the system that will play DS games, DSi games, DSiWare, 3DS games, and eShop games. (Just saying…)

At least with the DSi and DSi XL, the systems come with a few games.

Both the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL systems come pre-loaded with a variety of fun software, including Flipnote Studio, Nintendo DSi Camera and Nintendo DSi Sound. Nintendo DSi XL comes with additional pre-installed games and applications, including Brain Age Express: Arts & Letters, Brain Age Express: Math and Photo Clock.

Read further down the press release, and you see that Nintendo has a little hidden agenda in mind for this price cut.

The new suggested retail prices provide an even greater incentive to pick up the systems, and provide an easy option for parents who want to introduce younger kids to their first portable games.

In other words, after Mother's Day, it's a great time to buy a DSi for my four-year-old. I see the genius in that, but I still think Nintendo needs to cut the cord with these older devices. You want people to buy a 3DS? Stop producing DSis and DSi games. Sony needs to listen to that as well.

Will my son get a $99 DSi? Hell no! He isn't getting any new game console until he gives me back my iPad. I swear, you show them one game of Plants vs. Zombies and you lose the iPad forever.
