New Super Mario Bros. 2 Coming to 3DS This Summer

Nintendo loyalists looking for another Mario adventure to sink their teeth into only have a few more months of waiting to go, as Nintendo has just recently announced that New Super Mario Bros. 2 is currently in the works with a scheduled release for the 3DS sometime this August.

The company broke the news during their Nintendo Direct conference, offering up a handful of screenshots, which – surprise, surprise – bear a striking resemblance to the other New Super Mario Bros. titles we've seen in years past. Nintendo described the game as an "all-new, side-scrolling adventure" featuring "Mario, Luigi and all your fave characters from the Mario series." Nothing all too surprising there.

Since this is the first title in the sub-series to come to the 3DS, it will be interesting to see how they plan to incorporate the 3D visual element into the gameplay. They managed to do some pretty cool stuff with Super Mario 3D Land, so here's to hoping that they don't just play it safe and give us the same old Mario experience.
