Curious about Suda 51's game-in-development Killer is Dead? So was Famitsu. The magazine interviewed Suda 51 this week and learned a bit about this new game.
Killer is Dead is being developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, and it will not be a sequel to Killer 7. However, it will share the same assassin theme as Killer 7 and Suda 51's other assassin games. But the main character is not an assassin; he's an Executioner (potayto, potahto) who kills "S-level" criminals around the world. As for gameplay, it seems that it will feature No More Heroes' swordplay, but will also "have new systems," as generic and vague as that sounds.
What's the most interesting, however, are what Suda calls the "key words" for the game. For example, Suda said that the main key words are "Moon" and "Earth," since the main character will travel all over the Earth to fight and execute his enemies. So I suppose that means the enemies have something to do with the moon?
The other main key word, according to Suda, is "Love."
Love is an important theme for the game, because the main character has someone he wants to protect, and he's fighting for this. The idea of "how far can you protect someone" is central to the story.
Sounds to me like it will be a No More Heroes mesh with Heavy Rain.
Hopefully we'll get something more concrete in terms of details before the game releases in 2013, but for now, this is all we have to go on. I don't know about you, but I'm dying to know what the moon has to do with the game.
