I don't think anyone was prepared for what a hit Skylanders has been since it launched last year. Toy and video game stores can barely keep the figures on the shelves for longer than an hour, and now it seems that they will have to make a little more room on their shelves for a few more.
Activision announced today that they will be revealing a new line of giant-sized Skylanders figures at the upcoming Toy Fair in New York. In fact, there will be eight giant-sized figures in all. Like the other figures, they each have their own powers and abilities for the video game when placed in the connecting portal device.
But wait, there's more!
Some of the new figures will be able to light up when placed on or in proximity to the portal device. Better yet, they will be able to do so without batteries.
When the Giants release, they won't be alone, either. Eight other, standard-sized figures will launch along with the Giants. There will also be new arenas and gameplay options in Skylanders' Battle Mode, "enhanced Elemental Zones," and new Hero Challenges.
Sounds to me like another case of Activision milking a franchise for all it is worth, but at least Skylanders fans won't have to buy a new game entirely to enjoy these new Giants. Although, I bet all of those figures together costs more than another game…
