Swedish Gaming Convention Gamex Bans Pirate Party

So Sweden's got this big (for Sweden) gaming exhibition called Gamex. They've got the usual companies attending and showing their wares, but now they've also got a bit of controversy on their hands over the exclusion of Piratpartiet, otherwise known as the Pirate Party. If you don't know of them, they're a group started in Sweden that has since spawned international followings that seek to reform copyright and patent laws with a greater emphasis on privacy and government transparency.

It wouldn't really be a big deal, since it's reasonable that a political movement wouldn't really fit at a gaming convention, but the Pirate Party claims that they had already paid for a booth, hotel rooms, and advertising. Not only that, Party leader Anna Troberg claims that they made the decision to attend after the exhibition pursued the Party for months to participate.

Rick Falkvinge, the Party's founder, said “I find it absolutely hilarious that a gaming fair banned the Pirate Party on the official pretext that ‘our culture is harmful to gaming'."
