It was back in 2014 when Darksiders creative director Joe Madureira suggested that despite THQ's demise, the series may in fact live on. Today, and years later, it appears we have confirmation of Joe's promise of series survival – Darksiders III is official, and there's a trailer to prove it.
The reveal trailer was published by IGN to its YouTube channel earlier today, and sheds light on Darksiders III's protagonist and main story premise. You can view the trailer below.
Much of what we know about the game as of now comes from its Amazon page, which was leaked slightly ahead of the trailer. Amazon's description of Darksiders III is as follows.
The listing also explains how players will be able to "harness FURY's magic to unleash her various forms," as well as "explore an open-ended, living, free-form game world in which FURY moves back and forth between environments to uncover secrets while advancing the story."
The Darksiders series is known for paying homeage to The Legend of Zelda. After Breath of the Wild's departure from several of the series' mainstay mechanics and staples, Darksiders' approach may be even more unique than it was in the past. The Amazon page also contains screenshots and additional snippets of information, so be sure to take a look.
Stay tuned for more info as it unfolds. In the meantime, check out our review of Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition for a taste of what to expect; its developer, Gunfire Games, is also in charge of Darksiders III. Currently, Darksiders III is scheduled to release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
