Rumor: Joystiq Is Getting Shut Down

It appears parent company AOL is planning to shut down its video game website Joystiq.

According to a report from Recode, the website will be closed as "part of an extensive house-cleaning of [AOL's] underperforming content properties." Joystiq has been around since 2004 and was formed as an extension of Engadget.

As a longtime fan of the website and its content, this news saddens me deeply. Of course, nothing is set in stone just yet, as AOL has yet to confirm or deny this report. Here's to hoping the rumor isn't true.
